Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan talked about Armenia war crimes

On October 15, Minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan Seyed Abbas Mousavi at his request.

The meeting focused on the development of friendly and fruitful relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, and there was noted the special role of President Ilham Aliyev and President Hassan Rouhani in strengthening these ties, regular mutual visits of heads of state. It was noted that relations based on a rich contract base have been successfully developing in various areas, including political, economic and legal spheres.

The Minister of Justice informed the ambassador on the military provocations committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan, and especially stressed the deliberate and purposeful heavy artillery fire on civilians and civilian objects, densely populated cities and regions, including Ganja and Mingachevir, which are far from the line of contact. As a result, 43 civilians were killed, 214 people were injured and 1,850 civilian objects, including houses and apartment buildings were damaged.

At the same time, it was noted that despite the agreed humanitarian ceasefire, Armenia by its war crimes grossly violated the norms and principles of international humanitarian law, the 1949 Geneva Conventions. It is regrettable that the international community did not react to the statements of the current leadership of the invading state, which openly provoked the war.

The Minister also said that Azerbaijan had appealed to the International Civil Aviation Organization in connection with the transportation of weapons to Armenia by civil aviation under the guise of humanitarian aid, in violation of the requirements of the Chicago Convention.

Ambassador Seyed Abbas Mousavi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, its country stands by the Azerbaijani state and people in recent events, noted Azerbaijan's just will to end the occupation and expressed hope that the conflict would be resolved through negotiations. He also said that he was aware of the recent provocations in Ganja, noting that the shooting of civilians was a war crime and expressed regret over the deaths of civilians.

The guest stressed that decisive measures were taken to prevent the transit of weapons to Armenia. He said that the Azerbaijani Justice Minister's official appeal on Armenia's military provocations had been submitted to his Iranian counterpart and conveyed his greetings.

F. Mammadov thanked Iran for supporting the rightful position of our country, wished success to S.A. Mousavi and asked him to convey his greetings to the Iranian Minister of Justice.

During the conversation, the sides touched upon the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of justice, exchanged views on legal assistance, extradition and other issues.
