The Minister of Justice exposed the war crimes of Armenia against our country at the conference of the Council of Europe

On November 9, a video conference of the Ministers of Justice of the member states on "Independence of justice and the rule of law" was held within the chairmanship of Greece in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE).

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the EU Commissioner for Justice, the heads of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, the European Court of Human Rights, the Venice Commission, the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) and the Consultative Council of European Judges (CCJE) opened the event and told about the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic on the rule of law and justice.

Speaking at the first session of the conference, Azerbaijani Minister of Justice Mr. Fikrat Mammadov stressed the decisive measures taken under the leadership of the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to prevent the pandemic in our country.

He said that the pandemic has stimulated the widespread use of ICT and the transition to online activities. In this regard, the introduction of the "e-court" information system and its mobile software has greatly facilitated the ability to apply to the courts online and to conduct court proceedings in video format during the quarantine period, and legislation was improved in this area.

Referring to the measures taken in the penitentiary system at high risk of coronavirus infection, the Minister noted that during the pandemic, as a manifestation of humanist policy, the President pardoned the majority of prisoners over 65 years of age, he noted the expansion of the use of alternative measures of restraint and alternative punishments to imprisonment, the humanization of the penal policy and the release of hundreds of prisoners from various punishments.

At the same time, noting the fruitful cooperation in the legal field, including extradition, in the context of a pandemic, he thanked the brotherly Turkish Minister of Justice.

The main part of the speech was dedicated to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and it was noted that, for 30 years, Armenia has ignored the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the PACE, which took part in the event, and has not liberated our occupied lands. He deliberately disrupted the negotiation process and resorted to military provocations, chanting slogans of aggression.

In response, it was stated that Azerbaijan carried out counter-offensive operations without any outside support in order to force the aggressor to peace, based on the right to self-defence in accordance with the UN Charter.

The European Ministers of Justice and the leadership of the Council of Europe have been informed that Armenia has purposefully fired on civilians in gross violation of international humanitarian law, using banned cluster and phosphorus bombs and ballistic missiles. As a result, about 100 civilians, including children and women, were killed and more than 400 were injured.

All these are crimes against humanity and war crimes, and in this regard, the Armenian side must be held accountable at the international level, and international organizations must show principality in the matter of justice.

The Minister of Justice added that, despite the complete defeat on the battlefield, Armenia is deliberately sending its citizens to the death.

Azerbaijan, which won under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, hopes that Armenia will reconcile with reality and return the remaining occupied territories to our country politically.
