The Minister of Justice addressed an appeal to his foreign counterparts regarding the liberation of our lands from occupation

As a result of the resolute will and wise foreign policy of the President, victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the heroism and bravery of the mighty Azerbaijani Army, the unity and solidarity of our people, our lands, which had been occupied for 30 years, were liberated after a heavy defeat of aggressor Armenia on the battlefield and in the political arena. The Great Victory of Azerbaijan finished the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and our territorial integrity was restored.

In this regard, Mr. Fikrat Mammadov, the Minister of Justice addressed a new appeal to his foreign counterparts.

The appeal noted the actual capitulation of Armenia, which suffered a bitter defeat on the battlefield, and thus was forced to return the remaining lands politically, drawing attention to the atrocities committed by the enemy in our territories during the occupation and other illegal acts contrary to international humanitarian law.

It was also noted that, Azerbaijan's military victories played a decisive role in the fate of the war and Armenia, which could not stand the Azerbaijani Army in the Victory March, was forced to admit defeat, realizing that it was impossible to ignore international law, continue its aggressive policy and occupy other lands.

Reconciling with the defeat of the 44-day military operation, Armenia signed a Joint Statement on November 10, pledging to withdraw the occupying forces from the territories of Azerbaijan and evacuate our lands as soon as possible. The statement also envisages the return of our compatriots displaced from their native lands to their ancestral lands.

The Minister stressed that as soon as Armenia announced its readiness to end the occupation and leave our lands, the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev immediately suspended military operations in support of peace. He noted that the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity have been implemented. He noted with great regret that, this was achieved at the cost of the blood of our heroic martyrs, as well as about 500 civilians, including women and children, who were targeted purposefully and continuously by Armenia, in gross violation of all international humanitarian law and moral norms.

It was noted in the appeal that, as part of the implementation of the Statement, the occupied last region - Lachin region was liberated peacefully and without bloodshed on December 1, and the war was over and a new era of construction and development had begun for our country.

It was noted that, great works must be done to restore our liberated territories, because despite the prohibition by 1977 Protocol of the Geneva Convention, the aggressor enemy destroyed our occupied lands and left behind a "burned land", as well as has almost completely destroyed the historical and cultural heritage of our people in those territories.

However, it was noted that the state and people of Azerbaijan, known as a peaceful, tolerant country in the world, will do their best to restore the destroyed cities and villages in solidarity, create good opportunities, a new security and cooperation format for peaceful coexistence in the region.

The Minister of Justice said he hoped that the Azerbaijani people, including about 750,000 IDPs, would celebrate the coming New Year for the first time in peace, as well as in our long-time occupied territories, and afterwards prosperity and security would prevail in our region.
