The 25th of October is being celebrated as European Day of Justice since 2003 by the initiative of the Council of Europe and European Commission.
The purpose of today's event is to raise awareness of citizens' rights and the activities of the courts to ensure the exercise of these rights, to ensure access to justice, and to encourage the work of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the field of justice.
“Open doors” are held by Member States for public in the courts on the occasion of “European Day of Justice”.
The events organized in all courts of Azerbaijan mean the explanations on close acquaintance of citizens with justice implementation system, judicial-legal reforms realized in the country under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev, including simplification of access to justice, enlargement of citizens’ appeal opportunities, modernization of judicial infrastructure, application of modern information and communication technologies and electron systems and awareness of other innovations, mechanisms of protection of their rights, etc.
Last year, the Council of Europe regarded estimable that our country one of the four countries, which holds the European Day of Justice actively, and recommended that such events be held in the Member States.
On the eve of "European Day of Justice ", the Council of Europe traditionally holds the award ceremony of the "Crystal Scales of Justice" competition. This year, the projects submitted by Netherlands, Spain, Luxembourg and Slovenia became the winners of this award. The presentation will be held in Oslo, Norway, on October 25 under the chairmanship of the CEPEJ president.
In 2017, Azerbaijan participated in this competition with the project "Pulse of the Court - Revolution in Governance" presented by the Judicial-Legal Council, which was rated as the most progressive project in the field of e-governance in the judicial system and our country was included in the list of 4 projects and our country was awarded solemnly with the "Crystal Scales of Justice" award of the Council of Europe.
At the same time, as a result of our progressive achievements in the field of judicial reforms, as well as our country’s active participation in the works of the European Commission for Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ), which supports more than 50 countries in realization of judicial-legal reforms and makes important contributions in increase of efficiency of justice activity, and as a result of effective representations and valuable contributions, in 2018 the Azerbaijani representative Ramin Gurbanov was elected a president of CEPEJ.
