The documents required for marriage registration are as follows:
- written applications of persons wishing to enter into marriage
- identity documents of persons wishing to enter into marriage
- a document confirming that persons wishing to enter into marriage have undergone a medical examination
- if the documents confirming the identity of foreigners or stateless persons do not contain a record of marital status, a certificate of marital status issued by the competent authorities of the country of their citizenship or permanent residence and duly legalized
- for previously married persons, a certificate (copy) of the dissolution of marriage or a certificate (copy) of the death of their husband (wife), or a legally effective court resolution on the invalidity of the marriage or an extract from it
- a court decision confirming the fact of being in a de facto marital relationship in the event that one of the persons who were in a de facto marital relationship before July 8, 1944 dies or goes missing without notice
- a copy of a document confirming the legal presence or residence of foreigners or stateless persons in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan
- document on payment of public duty

- Both parties to the marriage
Certificates on family members and marital status certified by an electronic signature can be obtained in digital form through “myGov” e-government portal.
Marriage registration is carried out by any registry office, consular office or representative office of the executive power chosen by the parties to the marriage or one of their parents.
If the specified documents can be obtained from the relevant state body (institution) through the Electronic Government Information System, these documents or information are not required from the applicant.
In cases where such documents or information cannot be obtained through the Electronic Government Information System, their submission is required from the relevant state body (institution) upon request with the consent of the applicant or is provided by the applicant.
Note 1: If one or both of the persons wishing to enter into marriage are foreigners or stateless persons, a copy of the document confirming their legal presence or residence in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as a certificate of marital status, must be attached to the application.
Note 2: By the Law No. 1198-VIQD dated June 28, 2024 on Amendments to the Family Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Azerbaijan, provisions were added to Article 12 of the Family Code on the prohibition of marriage between children of brothers and (or) sisters who have a common biological grandfather and (or) grandmother, as well as between uncle and niece, aunt and nephew, who have biological relationship.
Notice: Marriage is prohibited between children of brothers and (or) sisters who have a common biological grandfather and (or) grandmother, as well as between uncle and niece, aunt and nephew, who have biological relationship.
Amount of public duty:
A public duty of 10 manats must be paid for marriage registration.
