The Ministry of Justice carries out probation supervision and executes sentences that not involve isolation from society. The Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice was established in accordance with the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 10, 2017 “On improving activities in the penitentiary field, humanizing penal policy, and expanding the application of alternative sentences and procedural coercive measures that do not involve isolation from society”.
The activities on probation supervision are as follows:
• Organization of the execution of non-custodial sentences;
• Fine;
• Deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle, hold a certain position or engage in a certain activity;
• Community services;
• Corrective labor;
• Implementation of probation supervision over persons sentenced to restriction of liberty;
• Supervision of the execution of obligations imposed by legislation or by the court on persons who have received suspended sentences, been conditionally released from sentence, had the execution of their sentence postponed by the court, or been ordered to undergo compulsory medical treatment for alcoholism or drug addiction.
• Organization of probation supervision for compulsory treatment of persons who have committed an administrative offense involving administrative arrest and who need treatment for drug addiction in a specialized medical institution;
• Organization of measures to prevent the commission of new crimes by persons under probation supervision;
• Organization of the social adaptation and rehabilitation of persons under probation supervision;
• Organization of the execution of an administrative penalty in the form of community service.
