Mr. Fikrat Mammadov, the Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan, who is attending the 14th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Kyoto, Japan, met with Japanese Minister of Justice Mrs. Yoko Kamikawa.

The Minister of Justice of our country congratulated his counterpart on holding this prestigious forum on combating crime at a high level in a pandemic situation and on his election as President of Congress, as well as noted the importance of adopting the Kyoto Declaration, which is a road map for all countries in combating crime and reflecting national interests of Azerbaijan.

Highly appreciating the direct participation of the Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan in the Congress, Y.Kamikawa noted the friendly relations between the two countries, the successful development of cooperation for 30 years, and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the legal field.

The Minister F.Mammadov noted the successful development of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, said there were prospects for expanding cooperation between the justice authorities, and put forward concrete proposals in this area.

At the same time, it was noted that the exchange of experience in the legal field would be beneficial for both sides, informing about the internationally recognized reforms in the judicial sphere of Azerbaijan, and the two ministries agreed to prepare a document on cooperation.

The Minister also noted the great victory of our country in the Patriotic War under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the restoration of justice after the liberation of our lands from 30 years of Armenian occupation.

The facts of the destruction of our lands during the occupation, the complete destruction of all infrastructure, including the destruction or looting of historical, cultural and religious monuments were highlighted.

Talking about the large-scale works done to restore the territories for return of 750,000 IDPs to their ancestral lands, including the creation of "smart villages" and green energy zones, it was noted that there are ample opportunities for cooperation with foreign partners in this area.

The meeting was attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Japan Gursal Ismayilzada.
