A regional conference on the theme “Children's access to justice” was held on February 25-27 in Sarajevo with the joint organization of the Ministries of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina and UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia.
The delegation of the Ministry of Justice of our country participated in the event, which was attended by about 200 representatives of the Ministries of Justice and Social Security, national human rights institutions, NGOs and academic circles from more than 20 countries. Representatives of UNICEF Office in Azerbaijan and NGOs also attended the event.
The Minister of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Grubesa, UNICEF Regional Deputy Director for Europe and Central Asia Philip Cori and other officials spoke at the opening of the conference. During the plenary and panel sessions, the participants discussed the issues of protecting children's rights and facilitating their participation in court proceedings, enhancing access to justice for children, etc.
During the discussions, our delegation emphasized that protection of vulnerable children is one of the main priorities of Azerbaijan's state policy, information was given on the activities carried out in this field under the leadership of the President of the country, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, increase of effectiveness of justice, works done on application and development of the juvenile justice institution, it was noted the fruitful cooperation with UNICEF, including the successful implementation of the project jointly with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the field of juvenile justice.
Within the framework of the event, our delegation met with the colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina and exchanged views on cooperation in the field of justice.
During the visit, the participators visited a monument to the Khojaly genocide erected at the Friendship Park, which was reconstructed at the initiative and with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Sarajevo and commemorated the victims of the tragedy with respect.
