The 9th meeting of the European Union (EU) - Azerbaijan Subcommittee on issues of Justice, Freedom and Security, Human Rights and Democracy was held in Baku on April 26-27.
Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed AZERTAC that, the meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev on Azerbaijani side and Richard Tibbels, Head of the Bilateral Relations Department with Eastern Partnership countries of European Foreign Activity Service on EU side.
On the first day of the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation in the field of human rights and democracy, civil, economic, political and social rights, the national framework for the protection of human rights, as well as international human rights forums.
The next day, a number of issues of mutual interest in the fields of justice, freedom and security, including the rule of law, cooperation in the judiciary and justice, migration, asylum and border management, as well as the fight against organized crime and other illegal activities, return of internally displaced people to the released lands were discussed at the meeting.
The event was attended by representatives of 15 Azerbaijani government agencies, as well as the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights and the European Foreign Activity Service, as well as by employees of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Enlargement Negotiations, Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, Directorate-General for Justice and Consumer Affairs, Directorate-General for Employment and Social Affairs, as well as EU Delegation to Azerbaijan.
