The Ministry of Justice continues to take effective measures to ensure, through cooperation with the relevant authorities of foreign states, the apprehension and extradition to Azerbaijan of persons placed on international wanted lists on charges of committing crimes.
On November 6, the Ministry extradited another person to Azerbaijan who had been placed on the international wanted list by the National Central Bureau of Interpol in the Republic of Azerbaijan and whose whereabouts had been established in the Federal Republic of Germany.
In particular, Elmir Elkhan oglu Nuriyev, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who was charged with fraud committed in 2021 by abusing trust and deception for the purpose of obtaining another person's property for personal gain, was located and apprehended in Germany. According to the charges, on several occasions, he deceived victims by providing false information that he would carry out renovation works on their apartments, thereby causing them substantial financial damage (under Articles 178.2.2 and 178.4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan).
Following a request from the Prosecutor General's Office, the provision of relevant assurances by the Ministry, as well as subsequent negotiations, agreement was reached on the extradition of the individual to Azerbaijan. This once again reaffirms our country's standing in the international community and the status of the Federal Republic of Germany as a reliable partner for Azerbaijan.
Elmir Elkhan oglu Nuriyev was brought to Azerbaijan from the Federal Republic of Germany by responsible officials of the Ministry of Justice's Main Department for International Cooperation and the Ministry's Penitentiary Service and, pursuant to a court order for his arrest, was placed in the relevant pre-trial detention facility.
The Ministry continues to take the necessary measures in this regard.
