The Ministry of Justice continues to implement effective cooperation measures with the relevant authorities of foreign states to ensure the apprehension and extradition to Azerbaijan of individuals accused of committing crimes who have been placed on the international wanted list.
On 18 June, the Ministry carried out the extradition to Azerbaijan of another person who had been placed on the international wanted list by the National Central Bureau of Interpol in the Republic of Azerbaijan and whose whereabouts were identified in Germany.
Thus, Shamilov Elshan Hasan oglu, a citizen of Georgia who had been on the international wanted list for 33 years, was identified in Germany and apprehended. He had been charged with intentionally killing victim Gurbanali Mustafayev by causing grievous harm to his health, as well as committing robbery involving violence with other persons with whom he had entered into a criminal conspiracy for the purpose of obtaining material gain in the early 1990s (under Article 94(2) and subparagraphs 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8 of Part 2 of Article 145 of the former Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan).
Following a request from the Prosecutor General's Office, the submission of required documents in accordance with international procedures, and subsequent negotiations, an agreement was reached regarding the individual's extradition to Azerbaijan. This once again reaffirms our state's international standing and the status of the Federal Republic of Germany as a reliable partner for our country.
Elshan Hasan oglu Shamilov was brought to the country from Frankfurt, Germany, by officials from the Ministry of Justice’s Main Department for International Cooperation and the Ministry’s Penitentiary Service, and was placed in the appropriate pre-trial detention center pursuant to a court-ordered arrest warrant.
The Ministry continues to take the necessary measures in this regard.
