The Ministry of Justice continues to implement effective cooperation measures with the competent authorities of foreign states regarding the apprehension and extradition to our country of individuals accused of committing criminal offences who have been placed on the international wanted list.
On July 19, the Ministry carried out the extradition to Azerbaijan of another individual who had been placed on the international wanted list by Interpol’s National Central Bureau in the Republic of Azerbaijan and who had been located in the Republic of Serbia.
Specifically, the whereabouts of Sabuhi Elburus oglu Mammadov—a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan accused of fraud (under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan)—have been established in the Republic of Serbia, and he has been arrested; he is charged with misappropriating another person's property in 2023 through deceit and abuse of trust, driven by a motive of greed, by making false promises to the victim on various occasions and thereby causing a loss of a large amount—specifically 90,869.964 manats.
Following the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the negotiations held, an agreement was reached on the extradition of the individual to Azerbaijan. This once again confirms the international standing of our country and demonstrates that the Republic of Serbia is a reliable partner for Azerbaijan.
Sabuhi Elburus oglu Mammadov was brought to Azerbaijan from Belgrade, the Republic of Serbia, by responsible officials of the Main Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice and the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry, and was placed in the relevant pre-trial detention facility pursuant to the court’s detention order. The Ministry continues to take the necessary measures in this area.
