July 22, 2020 marks the 145th anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press. On this occasion, anniversary events are being held in accordance with the special quarantine regime by the Order signed by the President Ilham Aliyev on June 30 this year.
The Ministry of Justice always pays special attention to openness and transparency, cooperation with the media. The ministry has 11 websites, 5 periodicals and official pages on social networks.
In recent years, the ministry's cooperation with the media has intensified, with regular meetings with the media, including briefings on justice and judicial activities, press conferences, and public presentations. Even during the pandemic, the opportunities of the media are widely used to cover the consistent measures taken to ensure access to justice for citizens.
At the same time, in accordance with the Presidential Decree "On deepening reforms in the judicial-legal system" dated April 3, 2019, works are continued to strengthen public confidence in the judiciary, increase transparency in the judiciary, and inform the general public. In this regard, the interaction with the media has been expanded, the Judicial-Legal Council has appointed speakers-judges to work with the media in the courts, as well as a responsible person in the Council, and a list of them has been posted on the Council's website. A meeting was organized with the participation of numerous media executives and journalists, the speaker-judges were introduced to the media, as well as trainings and seminars were organized for judges and journalists.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press, the Ministry of Justice held an online meeting with the media in the format of a video conference. The event was attended by the officials of the Ministry and the Press Council of Azerbaijan, representatives of civil society institutions, speakers-judges and numerous media representatives.
The rich history of the Azerbaijani national press was discussed at the online meeting, it was noted that, after the return of the national leader Heydar Aliyev to the country's leadership, special attention and care was paid to ensuring freedom of speech and information, formation of a democratic and free press, opportunities were created for free activity of mass media and their development was fully supported by the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
It was noted that, the mass media play an important role in the full, objective and operative coverage of the processes and innovations in the socio-political life of
the country, as well as in the regular informing of the public. In today's pandemic, members of the media, like other professionals, work tirelessly.
Also, there was noted the important role of the media in conveying the truth about the military provocations committed by Armenia in the direction of Tovuz on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border to the world community, sharing was made in social networks about information war, and the appeal of the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva to the people to protect the position of our country was brought to attention.
Deputy Chairman of the Press Council Mushfig Alasgarli, Editor-in-Chief of the 525th newspaper Rashad Majid, Editor-in-Chief of the “Khalg jebhesi” (People’s Front) newspaper Elchin Mirzabayli, President of the Constitutional Research Foundation, member of the Public Committee under the Minister of Justice Alimammad Nuriyev and others spoke about the attention and care of the state to the development of press, and praised the effective cooperation of the Ministry of Justice with the media.
The participants of the event congratulated the media representatives on the anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press and wished them success.
As part of the event dedicated to the National Press Day – July 22, the results of the journalistic research contest on "Judicial and legal reforms: modern challenges and innovative practices" announced by the Ministry of Justice together with the Press Council of Azerbaijan were announced and the winners were awarded. At the same time, a group of journalists were awarded by the ministry for their active participation and fruitful cooperation in the coverage of justice and the judicial activity.
At the end, the questions interesting the journalists were answered.
