Round table on the application of the mediation institute was held at the Ministry of Justice on April 17. At the event, attended by the leaders of the Ministry and Press Council, members of the Public Committee at the minister of justice, civil society and mass media representatives, advocates and psychologists, there was made useful exchange of ideas on the role of mediation in extrajudicial solution of disputes, essence and significance of the new Law “About Mediation” adopted in regard with this, measures and projects realized on application of this institute and the issues coming from international experience in this field.

Speaking about the importance of the round table from the point of view of notification of the public about this new institute for the country, the heads of the relevant structures of the Ministry emphasized that, the event was held within the frame of enlightenment and propaganda measures on the application of the mediation process in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev "On Deepening of the Reforms in the Judicial-Legal System" on April 3, 2019.

It was noted that, the mediation institute aims to resolve disputes arising from civil and economic, family, labor and administrative law relations through mutual agreement of the parties without trial. This institute at present is widely used in many developed countries. Creation of the mediation institute in our country was on the agenda, for this purpose a number of steps were taken, including international experience was studied and proposals on potential mediation model for Azerbaijan were prepared.

The speakers spoke about the issues arising from the Law “About Mediation” and international experience in this area. It was informed that, joint projects on rendering of mediation services together with the civil society institutions have been implemented to support the development of the family institution and strengthening of the marriage relationship, as well as to prevent divorces. More than 1,900 persons have been interviewed by psychologists in the registration departments of the district and the ASAN Service Centers of Baku city and nearly 300 families have refused divorcing.

It was emphasized that, proper and effective use of mediation would also cause a reasonable reduction of the workload in the courts, as well as useful discussions were held around the topic and a number of proposals were made.
