The execution of the Order No. 1049 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On pardoning of a number of convicted persons” on March 16, 2019 was completed by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice on the 17th of March.
The Officials of the General Department of the Service spoke on the essence and importance of this humane act at the Penitentiary Service facilities related to the 65th Order of Clemency and they conducted explanatory works.
The members of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman), the Pardon Commission and the Public Committee at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, law defenders, the representatives of public unions and mass media participated in the events for the purpose of notification of society about execution of the Order of Clemency.
Execution of amnesty has been completed in organized form and under ceremonial conditions with the presence of family members and relatives of the prisoners.
The order concerned to 431 prisoners. 399 of them were released from unpaid part of imprisonment. As well as, the sentence of one prisoner who was sentenced to life imprisonment was reduced to 25 years, and the sentence of two prisoners who were sentenced to life imprisonment was replaced with 20 years of imprisonment.
The transfer of pardoned 13 foreign citizens to the State Migration Service was provided.
Persons, whom were applied the Order of Clemency, have been provided with relevant references about their release, they were rendered assistance, and official information was sent to the executive authorities and police authorities on their previous residence.
The prisoners released by the Order of Clemency and their relatives who came to meet them expressed gratitude to the leadership of the country who signed this humanist act.
