As part of the announcement of the year 2020 as the Year of Volunteers by the President of the country Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the Ministry of Justice is continuing systematic measures to encourage young people to voluntary activity.

40 volunteer-students from law faculties were selected as volunteers in the field of justice, and have been involved in the work of providing free legal assistance to the poor layer of society at the Academy of Justice, and trainings have been commenced with the participation of experienced lawyers, who are members of the Bar Association, in order to develop their practical skills.

After two weeks of training, students will be involved in free legal aid at the Academy within 3 months.

The course program includes the subjects like “Interviews with citizens”, “Consultations to the citizens”, “Preparation of procedural documents”, "Legal writing", "Preparation of claims on civil and administrative cases", " Peculiarities of consideration of cases on disputes arising from civil, family and labor relations".

Speaking at the opening of a practical training for volunteer students, acting Rector of the Academy of Justice Elchin Khalafov spoke about the organization of free legal aid in our country, the care provided by the state to the entire population, including the poor population, gave information about the activity of the Legal Clinic at the Academy in accordance with the President's instruction.

It was noted that, the draft Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Free Legal Aid” with the participation of international experts in accordance with the "State Program for the Development of Justice of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023" will improve the activities in the area of providing free legal aid to the poor layer of population.

Maryam Haji-Ismayilova, representative of the EU Azerbaijani Delegation attending the event, emphasized the fruitful cooperation with the Academy of Justice, noted that involvement of volunteers in legal aid would be beneficial to both citizens and volunteer-students, and such kind of activities are important to be held in the regions, too.
