650th anniversary of great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadeddin Nasimi is celebrated this year. 2019 was announced as “Nasimi Year” in our country by the President Ilham Aliyev and a range of measures on the life and creativity of Nasimi are held in our country.
On May 3, the “Book Day” was held by organization of the Ministry of Justice, Executive Power of Nasimi District and the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan under the motto "I read, you also read" in Zabit's garden in Nasimi district, Baku city.
The event was attended by the leaders and officials of the Ministry of Justice and Penitentiary Service, Executive Power of Nasimi District, representatives of the Writers’ Union, civil society and public representatives of the region, local residents, students and pupils.
Deputy of the Head of the regional Executive Power Gulara Verdiyeva, head of the Department of Human Rights and Public Relations Aynur Sabitova, chief of the Department of Public Relations of the Penitentiary Service Mehman Sadigov, secretary of the Writers’ Union, editor-in-chief of “525-ci qazet” Rashad Majid, the president of the “Constitution” Researches Fund Alimammad Nuriyev and the president of the National NGO Forum Rauf Zeyni made a speech at the event and talked about the importance of the “Book Day” dedicated to the 650th anniversary of Nasimi.
It was informed that, the Order of the President of our country on announcing the year 2019 as the “Nasimi Year” in Azerbaijan is the obvious example of the great attention and care to the humanitarian thought and literature in our country. The series of events held on this occasion are of exceptional value in terms of the study and promotion of the Nasimi heritage.
The speakers evaluated the initiative of holding the action as humanist step for the purpose enriching the library funds of the institution of execution of a punishment by the Ministry of Justice and approved issue of about 4 000 books, collected within the frame of the “Book Day”, to the prisoners, who are considered the sensitive strata of society.
The students of the "Modern Innovations Lyceum" organized a flashmob on the "Book Day" in order to increase the interest of young people to reading. The event continued with musical and artistic program.
