As part of the measures implemented by the Main Medical Department of the Ministry of Justice to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services provided to convicted and detained persons in penitentiary institutions, the implementation of a remote medical examination system has commenced.
The system enables doctors at medical and sanitary units in penitentiary institutions, where necessary, to consult remotely with medical specialists in various fields, ensuring the prompt assessment of patients’ medical conditions and the determination of appropriate medical management strategies. Remote examinations are conducted in various specialties, primarily psychiatry and dermatology.
Currently, the remote medical examination system is being piloted in four penitentiary institutions.
The introduction of the remote medical examination system contributes to the modernization of healthcare services in penitentiary institutions, enhances the timeliness and efficiency of medical assistance, expands convicted and detained persons’ access to specialized healthcare, and helps ensure continuity of medical care.
