It has passed 27 years since Khojaly tragedy, a bloody page of ethnic cleaning and genocide policy against our people made by aggressive Armenian nationalists during a period of more than two hundred years.
On the night of the 25-26th of February of 1992 the Armenian armed forces attacked the town of Khojaly, they led armored equipment into the town by breaking up all international legal norms and punished mercilessly the peaceful population of the town and such brutality has never been seen in the world. During this bloody massacre, hundreds of people were killed and seriously injured, more than a thousand were taken hostage.
The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a special Order on the occasion of anniversary of the genocide. There was held national march with the presence of the head of state Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the First vice-president Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva on the front rows. The march began from Azadliq square with attendance of ten thousands of people, as well as the justice officials. The attenders visited and put flowers to the monument of the victims of Khojaly genocide in Khatai district and remembered the memory of the victims of tragedy with deep respect.
Khojaly genocide was stated as the action against peace and humanity and as the gravest international crime in the memorial events held in the Ministry of Justice and structural organizations. This bloody event was given political-legal evaluation after the return of the national leader Heydar Aliyev to power.
The delivery of hard truth of such mass slaughter to the international society by the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev, important steps made for recognition of this by world union as a genocide act, holding of purposeful and systematic measures by the initiative of Heydar Aliyev Fund, the importance of the campaign “Justice for Khojaly” was especially mentioned in the meetings.
The publications about Khojaly genocide in different languages, as well as films, photo and video slides were demonstrated in the Ministry. There was held round table on the theme of “The problems of punishment of the persons committing a crime against peace and humanity” in the Justice Academy.
